A progression through Facades.

Architectural photography has become an essential part of my practice throughout my time in education. Living in a city has really developed my passion for the topic and I have used the array of architectural brilliants that is on offer in Manchester to create various projects. Some of my earlier university work looked to explore the development that has taken over Manchester, in particular the developments to facades in modern day architecture. The work in this section of my practice look to explore these developments by documenting the varieties of architecture that live in London and Manchester and outer areas of Manchester including Salford. The driving force behind this project stems from looking at architecture during my first years of educational photography. I had found an interest in architecture, in particular I found the sleek, geometric designs used in architecture nowadays a huge attraction. I made the choice to revisit the project at this stage during my university studies to see my personal development within photography, as well as seeing how architecture has grown in the years I haven’t made it the center piece to my practice. With this project I wanted to create an in depth exploration of architecture, starting with how facades have grown then expanding to what is beyond the facades we see everyday. Taking this project to see what is beyond the working façade allowed the project to take a new journey into architecture. With this development, I was able to explore the structure that makes up the facades that everyone see’s.
