Vacant Spaces.

A series I’m currently working on is my final major project for my final year of study at Manchester school of art. This project has taken great influence from the work that focused on modern facades. Manchester as a city has been under intense redevelopment throughout 2015 to the current day, this inspired me to focus on these developments but not to what had been produce. My focus instead looked toward the forgotten, abandoned buildings that have become vacant due to the array of developments that has swept the city. The project Vacant Spaces, explores these structures and the life that was once in these now derelict buildings. Through these documentations I look to find a deeper meaning into what makes a ruin. The imagery will not only document the emptiness of the space but the decay, exploring what life is like for these vacant spaces once all the human life has left. The aim of the project is to take a view on ruins with an in depth exploration into what a ruin actually is. Is it a decaying building, or is the death of a life and the history that this building has held on to. The focus doesn’t just lie with exploring abandoned buildings, it looks to dig deeper and discover the life that once filled these spaces.
